In our home, we’re getting ready for Christmas. The tree is up, the garland is hung over the windows, our nativity scene is in the general disarray it stays in with a four year old who uses it for his own personal soap opera…

I just love the holidays.

We found out a couple of years ago that we’re celiac, which means we have an allergy to gluten. (It’s in absolutely everything.) But I’m getting better at coming up with gluten-free treats, so this Christmas will be even more delicious. (No joke. I’ve learned how to make gluten-free truffles.)

Yesterday, I was reading my son Christmas stories. One of my personal favorites is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I’ve read it to my son a thousand times, and neither of us tire of it. I started to read the first lines:

From How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

From How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

“Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot…
But the Grinch who lived just North of Whoville did NOT!
The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason…”

At which point, my son pointed to the distended belly of the Grinch with a sympathetic little nod and said, “I think I know why. He got gluten.”

LOL! From the mouths of babes! It certainly does make ME cranky when I get sick from gluten.

I love Christmas stories, especially when I can share them with my little guy.

How about you? What are your favourite Christmas stories?
