No matter how many novels I write (and I now have nine novels out under another name, and several more in the works), the first page of a new book is daunting.

Chapter One

Just looking at that blank page is intimidating. Your first words set the tone for the whole book. The first lines will determine whether the reader continues reading or tosses your story aside.

Pressure!

Chapter 4 or 5 are much easier. I have my stride then, and my reader is invested already. But that first chapter makes my heart beat just a little bit faster. It’s like a first date. You’re all concerned about spinach in your teeth and first impressions. If you just relax, things go pretty well. If you get too tense, you laugh too loudly and say ridiculous things that you berate yourself for in the ladies’ room.

I did finish up Chapter one, so the pressure is off. I just wanted to let you know what a feat it was. πŸ˜‰
