I know it sounds like I barely started this novel, but that is only an optical allusion. I post on this blog once a week, and sometimes my inspiration for three or four posts come on the same day. Which frees up some time…
So I finished up the rough draft, and am now officially resting. Well, truth be told, I’m officially getting over the flu, but the flu was fantastically timed. If I had to get sick, there is no better time than just after a rough draft is complete and I have to rest before doing any more work anyway.
When I get sick, I normally do so with style. I don’t just get a sniffle, I go down for the count. This flu was no exception, but it did have the silver lining of having excellent timing. So I got to watch Netflix, nap and surround myself with wadded tissues guilt-free. Not once did I try to write “just one scene” only to have to delete it later because my fever-induced creativity was not to be trusted. 😉
I did, however, forget I was cooking and almost burn down my kitchen, but I don’t think we need to dwell on that. My kitchen survived. My family survived. My husband begged me to stay away from the stove until I was feeling better. The moral of that story is to make sure you always have a working fire extinguisher in your kitchen. No joke.

While my fire was nothing this dramatic, it sure does FEEL this dramatic in your own kitchen!
And now the next step is editing, and as I type this, I’m not quite ready to start that step yet. I need a few more days away from my story before I’ll have any perspective at all. So I’m hacking and coughing, and cheerfully recuperating from my terrifically timed flu.
Good advice to have a fire extinguisher. 🙂 God bless.
I had mine for 7 years and never used it once. But I’m glad I had it when I finally did need it!
