So, if we ever have an apocalypse…

If we ever have an apocalypse, somebody is going to have to feed me. I realized this not too long ago.

We have these friends who are very self-sufficient. They fix things when they break, they put in their own fence around their yard, they renovate, they harvest and can the fruit from their trees… These people have my utmost respect. Every once in a while I’ll mention having to replace something in our apartment, and my friend or her husband will say, “Oh, you can fix that! All you need to do is…” And after listening to a description of the work required, I’m forced to admit, “That is completely outside of our skill set.”

And if there were ever an apocalypse, I think they might have to feed me. My husband is handier than I am… maybe between the two of us we could figure out how to keep our family alive.

the-last-of-us-3

Because I’m a writer. And I’m not handy. I’m not sure what I’d have to offer to a fledgling society of humans! I’m not a doctor, I’m not a farmer, I’m not handy with machines or growing food. I couldn’t build my own house. I likely couldn’t survive a winter! What can I do? I can tell you stories!

I mean, what is a story worth to people focused on survival? Is it worth one meal? Two meals? Is a month’s worth of stories worth helping us build a house?

Maybe… It depends on the stories you tell, I suppose. If you’re creating the history of this group of people, telling the tale of their survival, then maybe it is, because stories give us roots. They help us to know who we are and what we stand for. They help us to remember the ones we’ve loved and lost, and they give us hope for the future. Because if we’ve survived this much, we can keep going!

But I’d have to learn how to garden and preserve food, at the very least. My hearty petunias on the balcony just wouldn’t cut it.

What about you? If there were an apocalypse, would you have the skillset to keep yourself alive without all our modern conveniences?

Speaking of my particular skillset, have you checked out my release this month? It’s a cowboy romance with adorable twin girls and it’s guaranteed to tear your heart out. That’s the kind of book I write!

If you look at the books on the nightstand at the beginning of this Harlequin video, one of those books is mine! Do you know what that means? It means that cowboy is technically MY hero! As in, the hero that I wrote! How cool is that?

I’m rather tickled, because I thought this video that Harlequin made was rather cute, and it took an author friend of mine to point out my book in the beginning.

So, if you’d like to meet the hero from this video, he’s in this book…

The thing is, authors work really hard for their money. If you’re looking for a job where you can make a lot per hour, don’t choose writing! As an author, you write because you can’t imagine doing anything else. And all of us write with the hope that one day we’ll make a fortune, but in all reality, most of us never do. If we make a living wage, we’re incredibly proud of ourselves, and we work our tails off to get it!

So when you see TV writers who sit around having coffee, hanging out with friends, writing a little bit and then solving a murder or something… please join us authors is a giant eye roll! LOL! That’s not how it works.

But when readers pick up our books and enjoy them, pass them around, write a review, gush just a little–that makes all that work worth it! It REALLY does.

And I wouldn’t turn down a bestseller. 😉

A Rancher to Remember, amnesia, harlequin, love inspired, Montana Twins miniseries, new release, single dad, twin toddlers

Today is the official release day for A RANCHER TO REMEMBER!

If you love toddler twins, brooding cowboys and family secrets, you are going to love this third book in my MONTANA TWINS miniseries.

I spotted it in the grocery store the other day, and I couldn’t resist taking a picture of it. You’ll have to forgive me for not squatting down next to my cart with my purse balanced on one shoulder and getting into the shot with it. There are days I’m just not willing to do the gymnastics necessary in full view of strangers. LOL

I always love when Harlequin uses my cover in their online marketing. They used mine for Cover Vs. Cover! 🙂

A RANCHER TO REMEMBER is the very last book in. my MONTANA TWINS miniseries… a story about a rancher who has an accident and suffers from temporary amnesia. He’s the father of twin toddlers, and can’t remember how to be a dad. So when his old friend arrives in town, who better to help him remember the life before his accident? But as his shattered memory starts to return, how come it’s his friend he remembers most vividly, and not his late wife?

Does he really want to remember the man he was?

I hope you’ll pick up a copy! It’s on the shelves now!

And if you’d like a sneak peek at the first chapter, here is your chance!

My very first copies of A RANCHER TO REMEMBER showed up on my doorstep the other day, and I couldn’t wait to share this with you!

I love this story… a cowboy dad to rambunctious twins who loses his memory only to discover the only person who sparks even the faintest memory is a woman who wasn’t his wife! What kind of a man was he? Is he willing to find out?

A RANCHER TO REMEMBER , the last book in my Montana Twins miniseries, hits the shelves this August!

Can you see the difference! It didn’t take me long, but then I’ve been staring at this cover for months now. 😉

If you haven’t picked up a copy of your own, I hope you will! A brooding cowboy, an unexpected twist to an inheritance, and two bubbly twins… What’s not to love?

I love being able to visit my books in the wild… all fending for themselves out there. It’s one experience to get your own box of books from the publisher and hold them in your hands, but quite another to see it on the shelves! I go book-stalking when my books come out, so I can go look at them on the shelves and get a picture without drawing attention and looking like a weirdo. 😉 Introvert problems.

This time, I spotted it in our local grocery store on the Easter weekend. Ta da! Directly after this photo was taken, I bought margarine.
